Invitation to webinars on Engaging Communities and Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development of Historic Precincts and Areas, 21st and 25th November 2020
World Heritage Week is celebrated across the world every year from 19th of November to 25th of November. We cordially invite you to be part of two interesting and important webinars being hosted by East Zone, ICOMOS India, and National Scientific Committee of Historic Towns and Villages with support from Emerging Professionals Working Group on Saturday, 21st and Wednesday, 25th November, 5 pm - 7 -30 pm.
Community participation in the conservation and management of historic areas and precincts go a long way in valorising local heritage, strengthen values and build custodianship. When local communities are enabled and empowered to self-organise, build capacity and address challenges and aspirations affecting the future of their built and intangible assets, it leads to harmonious relationship with the environment and its sustainability. Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) passed down the generations, and evolved in response to the natural and social environment of a place, builds a sense of identity, responsibility and belonging among the communities. The webinars aim at identifying good practices in engaging communities in conservation and management of heritage, both tangible and intangible, in historic precincts and areas. Social and economic values of intangible cultural heritage in sustainable development will also be discussed. This is the third series of webinars on ‘Resilient and Sustainable Development of Historic Precincts and Areas’, with a focus on West Bengal. More details are available in the attached brochures.
