About the Speakers and Panelist-
Dr. Mansee Bal Bhargava is a transdisciplinary learner of the built environment from sustainability and liveability perspectives that include architecture-design-development-planning-management-governance. Her twenty-five years of entrepreneurship, research and education focus has been on large scale developments with inclination towards ecological restoration. She has deep concerns on the water management in India and is developing her understanding of that. She has her Masters from CEPT University, MPhil from University of Cambridge and PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam on the subject. She has received global scholarships with fellowship support from GATE-India, Cambridge Commonwealth, Nuffic, RIHN, Fulbright-Nehru to name a few. She aspires to dedicate herself to water conservation and management in India through research, writing, public speaking. She is on a mission to inculcate ecological research aptitude and attitude among the youth to chart their life goals.
Dr. Deepak Acharya holds a PhD in Microbiology followed by a post doc in Ethnobotany. He is the Co-Founder and Director of Research & Development at Abhumka Herbal Pvt Ltd based in Ahmedabad, India. He has been documenting ethnobotanical knowledge of tribals of Central and Western India for more than 25 years. Written as many as 5000+ articles (scientific and popular) for various journals, magazines, print media and online newsletters. He is a member of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)- Biotechnology for Food & Agriculture Sectional Committee- FAD23 and of several other committees of the field. He is the author of nine books on tribal and local knowledge on natural resource management and ayurveda and his latest book Jungle Laboratory, published by Penguin Books is a bestseller.
Dr. Vandana Sehgal is an architect, an artist and an academic. She has done her PhD. in architecture from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and is an Associate Professor in Faculty of Architecture, U.P. Technical University, Lucknow. As an academic, her area of research is architecture theory. Her thesis was entitled Infinite in Architecture. She writes regularly in journals on theoretical as well as practical design issues. As an artist, she has done solo shows like ‘Between Spaces’ ‘Ramayana’ ‘Lucknow- Ek-Nazar’ and has participated in group shows with various artists all over India. She has painted Illustrations for many celebrated books. As an architect, she is involved with projects like hotels, archives gallery, memorials, houses, interiors and some re-development proposals.
About the Moderator:
Dr Ritu Gulati is an architect with an experience of 25 years in academics, practice and research. Working as a Professor and Head at Faculty of Architecture, Abdul Kalam Technical University, she has also successfully completed numerous architectural, heritage and Energy compliant projects. She has been researching on the traditional and vernacular houses of Lucknow and the Awadh Region since the last 15 years in which her doctorate has also been awarded from the illustrious CEPT University Ahmedabad. Her areas of specialisation include Sustainability, Heat Stress and Urban Heat Island, Water Conservation and Recycling along with Traditional and Vernacular Architecture, Heritage and Conservation. She is the author/editor of extensive compilation of the Benares Ghats, Kalinjar fort and Courtyard Houses of varied regions in India.
