The ICOMOS India National Scientific Committee on Industrial Heritage is pleased to invite you all to its fourth public lecture ‘Memory of Work : Industrial Archives as Heritage’ of the series 'Industrial Heritage in India: Knowledge, Condition and Significance II'.
(Event poster is enclosed)
Memory of work is central to industrial culture. Industrial archives retrieve and preserve this memory for the future, shifting focus from grand narratives of industrialization to the intimate and often invisible history of workers and processes. Industrial archives and museums enhance our ability to understand local histories while (re)constructing community identity particularly in regions where industrialization has ceased to be a way of life.
How are archivists working through this memory to make it accessible?
Talk 1 by Head Archivist Vrunda Pathare from Godrej Archives will showcase the process of recording the history of Godrej — its products, plants and people — and making it available for wider research. Talk 2 by Executive Director (Heritage), Indian Railways Vinita Srivastava chronicles the project to archive and digitise records of Indian Railways and how it can enable multiple narrations of history.
