BACKGROUND
Deliberations during ICOMOS India’s AGM-2019, held on 21-22 June 2019 at Varanasi, reiterated the significant role of ICOMOS India’s National Scientific Committees (NSCs) in gathering, studying and disseminating knowledge regarding the principles, techniques and policies pertaining to heritage protection of various domains comprising India’s Cultural Heritage. A step towards achieving this would be identification of gaps in the focus areas of each Committee and undertaking systematic research to fill the same. Each NSC of ICOMOS India corresponds to a International Scientific Committee (ISCs) of ICOMOS and, the NSCs also need to focus on a meaningful corroboration with ISCs, aiming towards a global acknowledgement of the specificities of Indian heritage. The AGM also emphasized the advisory role of ICOMOS India in World Heritage matters as well as the need for all NSCs to recognise this role and actively work towards strengthening it.
- The NSCs should send the proposals in the prescribed ICOMOS India NSC Proposal Template (See https://www.icomosindia.com/library/nsc-proposals-2019.html).
